Chateau Rieussec, Sauternes, 2000

Smell: Grape and peach with hints of apricot.
Taste: Quintessential goodness (and this was THE year: 2000). Peach and apricot. Like the inside of a yummy sweet grape. Had an Oregon late harvest Savignon Blanc the same night, and it tasted like syrup compared this this.
Finish: Grape and peach with hints of apricot.

Nederburg, Cabernet Sauvignon, 1979

Smell: Earthy.
Taste: Where did this come from (rhetorical: South Africa)? We were totally blown away! We did not expect anything like what we tasted. Peat! It was like eating a bag of peat moss ... only in the best way imaginable. A groundhog must have made this wine. Overwhelmingly spectacular!
Finish: Peat moss.
