Ken Wright Cellars, Canary Hill Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2002

Smell: --

Taste
: It's Ken Wright ... enough said. This is truly great wine. Lovely, smooth, complex, velvety.

Finish: Ahhh, the velvet hammer! Can't get better than this.

Chateau Rieussec, Sauternes, 2000

Smell: Grape and peach with hints of apricot.

Taste
: Quintessential goodness (and this was THE year: 2000). Peach and apricot. Like the inside of a yummy sweet grape. Had an Oregon late harvest Savignon Blanc the same night, and it tasted like syrup compared this this.

Finish: Grape and peach with hints of apricot.

Rating:    9.5

Nederburg, Cabernet Sauvignon, 1979

Smell: Earthy.

Taste
: Where did this come from (rhetorical: South Africa)? We were totally blown away! We did not expect anything like what we tasted. Peat! It was like eating a bag of peat moss ... only in the best way imaginable. A groundhog must have made this wine. Overwhelmingly spectacular!

Finish: Peat moss.
